Good Cookie
We have a pretty good time here at Pie Cottage and this Valentines weekend was no exception. There was a surprise guest appearance by someone whose favorite word is “COOKIE!”
That’s right! Everyone’s favorite Cookie Monster showed up while I was making surprise treats for my family and friends. We have some family favorites that I have made over the years and of course one of them is chocolate chip cookies but these are not any old chippers. Do any of you remember Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies? Well, read on because I have the recipe that made Wally Amos famous!
On July 21 of 1977, I was in Los Angeles and while reading the paper with breakfast, look what I spied. The Famous Amos recipe straight from the mouth of the man himself!
For those of you not old enough to remember these cookies, let me tell you that eating them is as addicting as potato chips so be forewarned that the smaller you make them the better. It makes a gazillion so there are lots to give away. After they cooled, I placed a bakers dozen of these tiny treats into little paper sacks tied up with a red ribbon and had the best time surprising friends with a special Valentine.
- 1/2 pound butter
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate pieces
- 1 cup raisins (I don't put these in but you can if you like)
- Cream together butter, eggs, sugars, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
- Sift together baking powder, soda, salt, and flour.
- Stir into creamed mixture until well blended.
- Fold in chocolate chips (and optional raisins.)
- Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets and bake at 350 degrees 7 minutes.
You can also bake these on an ungreased parchment covered cookie sheet.
